Under 5 Energize FAQ

Who can be involved?

All centres in the target communities including Kindergarten, Playcentre, Early Childhood Centres, Kohanga Reo, Puna Reo and Pacific Childhood Language Nests.

Who else is included?

Parents of young children and the community involved with Under Fives. We will provide resources and other services for both parents and those working in the young children sector to develop a consistency of messages related to healthy eating and physical activity.

How can our centre be involved?

Contact your Under 5 Energizer and register your interest.

What happens next?

  • Your centre will need to sign a Memorandum of Understanding that outlines the project and our respective commitments and responsibilities. 
  • Together with you we complete a stocktake of the physical activity and healthy eating environment of your centre.
  • Together we complete a needs analysis that identifies the physical activity and healthy eating areas you would like our help with. 
  • Together we agree on an action plan for your centre.

What will be in the action plan?

Your identified needs and these may include:

  • Policy development 
  • Workshops/Professional development 
  • In-centre mentoring
  • Resources
  • Healthy Heart Award
  • Others as identified by you
  • Other comments 

What is the timeframe of the project?

This is a two year project funded through the Ministry of Health. AUT will evaluate the project and monitor the changes made during this time. We anticipate that the successes achieved will result in continued funding.
