This is ME® launched in Taupo in May, and since then the local working group have been driving some exciting physical activit opportunities in the community.

Following the inaugural Mingle to Move Event, which connected local women and girls with sport and active recreation providers as well as with one another, the working group partnered with the Taupo Golf Club and held a women’s have-a-go golf series across three consecutive Sundays in November.

The group has also launched their own Facebook page for women and girls to discuss physical activity and continue to connect with local sport and active recreation opportunities in their community. With over 275 members, the page is growing by the day as the members share their physical activity journeys and encourage one another to participate in a range of activities.

In recognition of their great work in the community, the This is ME® Working Group (comprised of seven local Taupo women), was nominated in the Innovation in Sport and Recreation category at the Taupo District Sports Awards.

Their approach to breaking down the barriers for women and girls to move more and the activations they have planned and led (including the inaugural Mingle to Move event) have been instrumental in not only bringing females in the district together, but also raising awareness about the range of movement opportunities that exist.

The Working Group subsequently took out the category despite some great competition and will now be judged amongst other winners from this category across other districts as part of the Regional Sports Awards held in Hamilton in February.

Well done and keep up the great work This is ME® Taupo Working Group!
