Sport Waikato is excited to announce the appointment of a new member to its Board of Trustees. Parekawhia Mclean, CEO of Waikato Tainui Lands Trust, joins the Sport Waikato Board that plays a governance role with the Regional Sports Trust. Sport Waikato’s Chief Executive, Matthew Cooper says that he is delighted to have a person of Parekawhia’s capability on the Board. “We are excited about the new appointment of Parekawhia to our Board of Trustees -someone who we believe will add real value to shaping the direction of Sport Waikato, as we enter an exciting phase, with the development of our new strategy” says Cooper. Parekawhia was appointed the CEO of Waikato-Tainui Te Kauhanganui Inc. in December 2010. Parekawhia was raised in Whatawhata before leaving the Waikato in the late 1980s to live in Wellington. She has over 20 years of public policy and public sector management experience including almost seven years as a Director and Consultant of her own company Mauriora-ki-te-Ao Living Universe Ltd (MKTA) - a company dedicated to advancing the creative potential of Maaori knowledge, people and resources. Sport Waikato, in its 29th year of operation and provides programmes and initiatives across the Waikato, always striving toward the vision ‘Active for Life’.
