About Us
Nestled in the heart of Cambridge, the Grassroots Trust Velodrome is a thriving community facility. Based in Waipa, the "Home of Champions" the Velodrome is a premier destination for cyclists as well as offering a full suite of community programs and functions and events. We are about to enter an exciting development phase as we move the NZ Sports Hall of Fame to Cambridge in 2026, along side an "Everybody Active" experience and expanded events program.

Your Role
As Transition Manager you will lead and deliver the successful establishment and growth of the NZ Sports Hall of Fame and the Every Body Active Experience, positioning Grassroots Arena as a sustainable, multi-purpose venue. The role drives programme development and implementation, visitation, sponsorship engagement, and community participation to achieve the Hall of Fame and Every Body Active strategic and financial goals. We envisage this role will continue from Transition phase to Management once established.

Key Responsibilities

1. NZ Sports Hall of Fame

  • Develop and manage the Hall of Fame as a national attraction, targeting 60,000+ annual visitors by Year 5.

  • Collaborate to curate exhibitions, experiences, and interactive content that celebrate New Zealand’s sporting legacy.

  • Build partnerships with sports organisations, alumni, and schools to enhance reach and visibility.

  • Oversee ticketing, marketing, and visitor experience to achieve revenue targets

2. Programme Management

  • Develop and manage school visit and education programme

  • Develop and manage the “Everybody Active” programme to suit school, corporate and general audiences

4. Sponsorships & Partnerships

  • Work with the GM to secure new sponsorships and partnerships.

  • Develop tailored packages that integrate Hall of Fame visibility with event exposure.

  • Maintain strong sponsor relationships, ensuring value delivery and brand alignment.

5. Community Engagement

  • Ensure the Arena remains inclusive, accessible, and relevant to the Waikato community.

Skills & Attributes

  • Proven track record in programme management, venue operations, or tourism attraction management.

  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in budget delivery and revenue generation.

  • Excellent relationship management with school groups, sponsors, inductees and families, and sports bodies.

  • Creativity and innovation in event design, exhibitions, and visitor engagement.

  • Strong organisational skills, with ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Passion for sport, culture, and community impact.
