Vantage Black Sticks - Women’s Team Manager

Hockey New Zealand’s vision is to be the World’s Best Hockey Nation. Affiliated to the International Hockey Federation (FIH) the Vantage Black Sticks Women’s National Team is New Zealand’s pinnacle High Performance Women’s hockey team and represents New Zealand Hockey at all targeted international events.

With the evolution of High Performance programmes and pinnacle events that include Olympic Games, Pro League and centralised training, there is an importance for our teams and people to operate together with clarity and simplicity. Delivering easy to understand and inclusive processes that are well led is critical to the success of the Black Sticks programme.

This full time management role is designed to support the National Programme targeting Tokyo 2021 and the Commonwealth Games and World Cup in 2022. The purpose of this role is to work closely with the Head Coach to build and champion the culture and values of the team ensuring a holistic approach and focus on process to increase the performance capacity of the Black Stick’s Women’s team and supporting the National Programme.

The VBSW manager will contribute to the direction and long-term development of the Vantage Black Sticks Women’s high-performance programme and ensure open, transparent communication is in place. They will have a good understanding of winning and professional environments, health and safety, and operate with attention to detail. Having a knowledge of what the participants are going through and what is needed to be successful in their pursuit is of greatest importance.

As a strong and effective communicator, you will be able to provide challenge and support where required, exercise sound judgement to move on decisions, and go about your work in an inclusive and collaborative way. These are high pressure environments and your adaptability and ability to negotiate complexity will add value to the individuals, the team and the organisation, allowing a strong culture to evolve.
