Jono Park

Sector Capability Advisor – People

"Like most Kiwi kids, I grew up giving just about every sport a go — rugby, hockey, volleyball — but eventually found my way to cricket, which has stuck with me ever since. These days, I love spending time at the gym and getting outdoors, alongside my love for playing cricket. The gym is my space to clear my head, focus on myself, and test my resilience, while cricket lets me spend the day with mates in the sunshine — can’t complain!

Growing up in Taupō meant being surrounded by beautiful places to get outside and stay active, which really shaped my appreciation for movement. For me, being active is good for both my physical and mental health, and I want others to have the same positive experiences and access to sport and active recreation that I’ve been lucky to have."

Jono plays a vital role in developing and supporting the region’s coach and volunteer workforce across regional, school and community sport settings. His primary focus is to enhance the experiences of youth in sport by fostering inclusive, play-based, and person-centred sporting environments.

Jono works closely with key adult influencers - coaches, parents, school staff, and regional/community sport leaders, and he contributes to building capability, sharing resources, and creating sustainable support networks that enable quality participation and development opportunities across the Waikato region.
