Waikato

Kia Ora! Our primary aim at Sport Waikato is to “Make sport and physical activity happen in our region”. We do this in a number of ways, predominantly through working with young people and increasing their participation in recreation and sport, helping the community become more aware of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, assisting in the development of local clubs, and in providing some leadership in encouraging a coordinated and collaborative approach to sport and physical activity.

Morgan Kutia

District Coordinator - Waikato district

I have been involved in playing and coaching sport for over 40 years through rugby, rugby league and touch football. I also have a real interest in martial arts, basketball and boxing as well as a passion for any sport that promotes healthy lifestyles, positivity and continuous improvement. I believe in the motto “The man at the top of the mountain didn’t fall there”.

We are only too willing help clubs, teams and individuals within the community achieve their goals.

Amiria McGarvey

District Coordinator - Waikato District

Waikato District is made up of two parts: Waikato and North Waikato. Morgan Kutia coordinates Waikato and I cover North Waikato including Huntly, Te Kauwhata, Meremere and recently we have merged to work alongside Counties Manukau.

Our primary aim at Sport Waikato is to “Make sport and physical activity happen in our region.”  Therefore we endeavour to support sport clubs, workshops, events, council and communities to help make this happen.

Hakarimata Ranges

The Hakarimata Ranges has a number of entry points:

Two entry points in Ngaruawahia. The easier of the two is on Brownlee Ave.  This is suitable for the family and walking enthusiasts.  The first part of the track is in good condition and takes on average 30mins to get to the damn.  From the damn to the top of the rangers the track becomes difficult and is suited to regular hikers and those familiar with the track.

A third entry point is in Huntly on Parker Rd.  The track conditions are good all the way through and offer two ways up.  One through the Kauri Loop and the other straight up.  This track is suitable for anyone of all ages as there is resting bays all the way up.  This is a popular enjoyable track.
