Squash

Lindsey Walters

SportsForce Squash Development Officer

Lindsey is looking forward to working with the squash clubs in the Waikato region, bringing ideas from a grassroots perspective. She is also excited about taking the Microcourt programme to schools and introducing young people to the great game of squash.

Squash Waikato’s mission is ”to promote, foster and develop squash in the greater Waikato region through a coordinated and professional approach.” Their geographical area covers from Huntly and the Corromandel to Matamata and Taumarunui. Please visit the Squash Waikato website at www.squashwaikato.co.nz.

Why Play Squash?

  • Burn Calories Fast
Playing Squash burns approx. 200 calories in 20 minutes compared to tennis or football at 140 calories per 20 minutes.

  • Builds Strength and Endurance
Extended rallies and almost constant running builds muscular strength and endurance. Squash provides an impressive cardio respiratory workout. Lunges, twists and turns increase flexibility in the back and abdomen.

  • Convenient
Squash can be enjoyed no matter what the weather; you only need one other person to play a game, and 30 minutes to 1 hour is all the time you need.

  • Inexpensive
Equipment required is a racquet, ball and court shoes – all of which can be purchased at a reasonable price. Hiring a court is relatively cheap and Squash Club membership fees are also reasonable.

  • Competitive
The grading list ensures that when you enter the many inter-club or Tournament competitions you will play people at a similar skill level. The challenge is to improve your grade.
