SportsForce is a programme managed by Sport Waikato and designed to support sport at the grassroots level across the Waikato region. We recognise that sport happens because people volunteer as coaches, organisers, referees, umpires and committee members. Our aim to to support, educate or share ideas that work with the people the make sport happen.

SportsForce is a proven programme. Thanks to very significant financial support from Trust Waikato and considerable input from the sports involved, SportsForce has been working now for 12 years. Its very unique and its been a great way to support our communities. Sport at junior level in particular has blossomed. There are now so many more children with sports skills and confidence to make sport and physical recreation a lifetime habit.

SportsForce is Development Officers working within 17 different sporting codes in a variety of ways. These include:

• Supporting and developing club and school coaches
• Sharing ideas with and supporting club administrators and coordinators
• Helping drive the recruitment, training and retention of referees, umpires and officials
• Assisting schools in the provision of sport and linking them to clubs
• Starting up new sporting opportunities and increasing access young people, around the region have to sport
