Secondary Schools |
Sportfit is the brand name for the SPARC programme for young people in secondary schools. This programme has helped secondary schools fund a Sport Co-ordinator to work within the schools to ensure pupils have a wide variety of opportunities in both physical and sporting activities. Where does Sport Waikato fit in?Sport Waikato is very proud to be associated with the many fine Secondary School sporting achievements within our Waikato schools. The Waikato schools provide some fantastic opportunities for pupils within the region and it is the role of Sport Waikato to work with both the providers of sport and the schools to further enhance these opportunities. From the facilitation of sporting events through to the promotion of intiatives like the Waipa Tri Nations event, Sport Waikato is always available to support and promote the benefits of physical activity and organised sport. Some of our key local partners in the area of secondary schools are:Waikato Institute for Leisure and Sports Studies (WILSS) - providing leadership and training courses for Year 7 & 8 students through to elite junior sports people and the beginning coach. Waikato Times - a long-time sponsor of the region's prestigious Secondary School Sports Awards. Sport Waikato's Secondary School Regional Sports Director (RSD) is Nigel Elvidge who has overall responsibility for managing a number of programmes within the educational sector. Nigel works closely with school sports coordinators, staff and principals in each school to aid them in their programmes and making those all-important links to our communities. Events & Courses
