National Volunteer Week 2018 celebrates the 1.2 million Kiwis who are volunteering their time and skills to our communities every year. The theme this year is Volunteers - Heart of our Community which captures the essence of what volunteering is about; how their efforts, compassion and time provide a significant contribution, enriching communities.
Sport Waikato is developing a plan to help celebrate, support and increase the number of sport and recreation volunteers across the Waikato region. We recognise that our vision of ‘Everyone out there and active’ cannot happen without volunteers.
Sport Waikato’s aim is to encourage sports clubs and recreational organisations across the Waikato region to establish and implement volunteer plans, so they can take a proactive approach to finding new and retaining existing volunteers.
“Recognising and celebrating volunteers is a big part of what Sport Waikato will support clubs and associations with – helping volunteers feel valued and recognised for the big part they play in sport and recreation,” says Sport Waikato CEO Matthew Cooper.
Effective resources and information will be available on the Sport Waikato website Resources folder and there will be local functions around the region over the coming months to celebrate the community volunteers.
National Volunteer Week will run from 17-23 of June 2018.
Sport Waikato is celebrating National Volunteer Week with a competition on our Facebook page for all your very deserving volunteers!
Just head over to our Facebook page and nominate your volunteers by telling us how amazing they are and how they give to your club, organisation or team.
We'll draw three prizes of sporting gear - from jackets to caps and hoodies - for their awesome work, but most of all you get to tag them in the post and show them how much they are appreciated!
Competition closes Saturday 23 June at 7.30pm
