Coaches are the one person who has direct contact with our athletes and therefore have the single most influence on their performance and enjoyment of being involved in sport. Good coaches understand their role in ensuring the experience of sport is an enjoyable one for their athletes and take the time to provide an environment where the athlete can excel.
A lot of parents, at some stage, may feel they either want to coach their child’s team, or feel pressured into coaching them. This feeling is also followed by a fear of the unknown or failure, which at times prevents them from actually volunteering to coach.
Sport Waikato understands the need to support coaches and provide development opportunities for them to help them understand and perform in their role better.
