Parents

Project Energize is a project for Waikato Primary School children focusing on improving their nutrition and increasing the amount of quality physical activity they undertake. The overall goal is to have healthier children who have a sound base of fundamental movement skills, a positive attitude about being active for life and accurate, applicable knowledge and skills about healthy eating.

What does this mean for your child?

There is a lot of evidence that ‘physically’ healthy children are more likely to have:

  • Increased self-esteem
  • Better coordination
  • Improved concentration in class
  • Positive behaviour
  • Improved memory
  • A ‘healthy’ lifestyle attitude
  • The fundamental movement skills that will allow them to participate in a wide range of physical activities throughout their life

What does this mean for your family?
  • An opportunity for families to guide their children in choosing healthy and active lifestyles
  • Increased awareness of community resources and personnel available to them

What does this mean for your school?
  • • A Team Energize staff member to support your school
  • • Additional professional development for teachers
  • • Opportunity to improve the overall health and nutrition of your students

What programme will your school have?
  • Each school develops its own plan. This is done in consultation with the children, teachers, parents and wider school community

What types of things do Project Energize schools do?

Team Energize staff are available to assist schools with a whole range of initiatives and projects related to healthy eating and physical activity. A few examples are:

  • Professional development for teachers in P.E and daily activity
  • Nutrition sessions for parents, teachers and children
  • Healthy fundraising ideas
  • Leadership programmes for students

See below for some handy tips to keep your children eating healthy, being active and having fun!
