Golf

Megan Hucker

SportsForce Golf Development Officer

Golf is the highest participant sport in New Zealand, and it is the number one sport for men and the number two sport for women. With 419 golf courses in New Zealand (the second highest in the world per capita) players are not limited for choice, with an average of 7 million rounds played per year.

Green Fees start as low as $10.00 per round so it is not an expensive sport to get several hours’ enjoyment and entertainment. With a total of 44 clubs in the Waikato district anyone wishing to take up the game would not have to travel far to find a course nearby.

Waikato Golf Association implements and manages many interclub events and tournaments to ensure golfers of all ages and playing ability are given the opportunity to partake of the game. We are committed to promoting the game at Grassroots level to encourage beginner and junior players to become more involved in the game of golf. Two such programs are:

> Kiwi Golf  which is a child-centred and safety conscious programme for introducing young children to the skills of golf. It is delivered at the school at a time convenient to both the school and the Kiwi Golf presenter.
> Golf Fun Days which provide children with an opportunity to experience golf on a 'real' golf course in a friendly and safe environment. Teams play 'rotate golf' over 6 - 8 shortened holes. It is an ideal follow on from Kiwigolf.

Megan has been involved with golf administration since 1994 and having covered most areas of sports club administration in this time, she is more than happy to help out with any areas of sports administration.
