SportsForce Badminton Development Officer

Hi my name is Philip Paterson (Phil). I’m the Badminton SportsForce Development Officer for Waikato and I am employed by the Waikato Badminton Association to help make “the sport of badminton accessible to everyone in the Sport Waikato region on a social or competitive level for all ages and abilities”. Or as we say in SportsForce, it’s my job to help make badminton happen in the Waikato.

I’ve been involved in badminton almost all my life. I remember playing in my first Under 13 tournament in 1973. In 1975 I started playing C grade interclub and I’m still playing C grade interclub for Horsham Downs club. I play Masters inter association badminton for Waikato and I’m also a badminton coach and help coach Waikato Junior Rep. teams most evenings of the week as well as some private coaching.

I see my role as providing the information and access to the resources for people to play badminton. Badminton will provide the enjoyment for people to keep playing.
